  • Latina Equal Pay Day
    Posted On: Oct 31, 2018

Each year, the women's rights community highlights gender and racial wage gaps on various “equal pay days.” The most well-known is National Equal Pay Day in April, when the earnings of women overall finally catch up to the earnings of men from the previous year. While women typically earn 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, the wage gap is even wider for women of color. Latinas have the largest wage gap. Per the most recent available data, Latinas are paid just 53 cents for every dollar earned by White, non-Hispanic men. This means they have to work nearly 23 months to earn what White men earn in 12 months. This disparity hurts not only Latinas, but also the families and communities they support.

Latina Equal Pay Day Social Media Storm -- Thursday, November 1 @ 2:00 pm ET

Latina Equal Pay Day -- the day when Latina pay catches up to that of White, non-Hispanic men from the previous year -- is being observed on November 1, 2018. More than 50 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Latinas typically earn only 53 cents for every dollar earned by White, non-Hispanic men and must work nearly 23 months to earn what white men earn in 12 months. Indeed, given that this is the last "Equal Pay Day" observance of the year, Latinas must typically work longer than ... everyone. This disparity hurts not only Latinas, but also the families and communities they support. This is unacceptable. We need to act now and let everyone know that we support #LatinaEqualPay and we VOTE! Join the #LatinaEqualPay Day Social Media Storm on November 1 at 2:00 pm ET!
