THE AFA NEEDS YOUR HELP
Please call Senator Cory Gardner 202-224-5941
The FAA reauthorization bill is up for approval. One of the issues that is included in the bill is mandatory 10 hour rest for Flight Attendants and a fatigue risk management program. Now, FAs can work 14 hours and have 8 hours rest before working another 14 hour+ day. This rest is only from gate to gate. It does not include clearing security, preflight safety checks, boarding or deplaning and getting to hotel. Often, those things reduce our actual sleep to 4-5 hours. Flight attendants are your first responders in air and need to be well rested to perform our safety related duties and ensure safe flights. Our pilots already have these regulations.
The Senate is drafting their version of the FAA Reauthorization Bill this week - and we need them to make combatting Flight Attendant fatigue a top priority.
It’s time to tell Senators to include our 10 hours minimum rest provision along with a Fatigue Risk Management Plan (FRMP) in the base bill.
The time for talk is done. Fatigue studies confirm we need more rest. This is about safety, health and equality - the flight deck has 10 hours minimum rest and so should Flight Attendants.
Studies confirm Flight Attendant fatigue occurs more frequently than originally known. In an era of heightened security with the need for constant vigilance, Flight Attendants cannot afford to be impaired on the job due to fatigue.
